Raaganjali Music Academy

Raaganjali Music Academy provides online and in person Hindustani Classical, 'Raag Sangeet', and Semi-Classical Vocal classes for children and adults. We aim to make the art of Indian Classical Raag Sangeet accessible to anyone, anywhere.

in recent times

During the pandemic, under Joita's direction, the world's first digital Mahalaya, songs for Maa Durga from USA and Mahishasur Mardini, a digital collaboration of India and USA, were released on YouTube in 2020.

In recent years, Joita has been invited to multiple academic forums and classical music workshops organized by some of the leading universities and research institutes across India. To meet this growing demand for her expertise and guidance, Joita has been addressing faculties and students of these institutes through multiple webinars. Some of her notable webinars are as listed below:

Joita's Story

Born in Prayagraj, Dr. Joita Bose Mandal is the daughter of the renowned Hindustani Classical Vocalist, Vidushi Kamala Bose. She hails from a family that has a rich tradition of contribution to the field of performing and fine arts. She is the granddaughter of late Shri. J. D. Mazumdar, a reputed violinist of yester years. Joita took her musical training from her mother, Vidushi Kamala Bose. Joita has also learned from the eminent musicologist, Vaggeyakara Pandit Ramashreya Jha ji of Bhatt Parampara of Prayagraj. Later, she came under the tutelage of Pandit Parameshwar Hegde, a stalwart of the Kirana, Gwalior and Patiala Gharanas.

Joita has been a regular artist at the All India Radio, Allahabad and the North Central Zone Cultural Center, Allahabad. Her vocal recitals have been telecast by the Astha channel and by the Lucknow Doordarshan Kendra. She has won laurels in a number of music competitions including:

  • The Allahabad University Music Competition securing first position in Classical music.

  • Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Academy, Lucknow securing first position in semi-classical Thumri/Dadra.

  • Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad securing first position in both classical music and Bhav Sangeet.

For almost a decade now, Joita has been performing in numerous concerts and music festivals where she has received rave reviews for her performance from the audience and the press. Some such concerts where her skill and artistry were widely appreciated include:

  • Barindas Sangeet Samaroh, Allahabad (1993)

  • Vishnu Digambar Circle of Music, Prayag Sangeet Samiti (1994)

  • Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh, Varanasi (1996)

  • Sangeet Sammelan, Siddhapeeth, Badohi (1997)

  • Guru Purnima Festival, Patna (1998)

  • National Program of Music, Sangeet Sankalp, Allahabad (1998)

  • National Program of Music, Sangeet Sankalp, Mirzapur (2000)

  • Nadashree Sangeet Sabha, Hubli (2004)

  • Morning Raga series organized at the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, Bangalore, by the Department of Kannada and Culture (2004)

She is one of the core members of ‘Sangeet Sankalp’, founded in 1994 as an organization working to promote Indian Classical Music and Art across India. Through Joita’s efforts, Sangeet Sankalp reached a new milestone in its International journey with the opening of the Los Angeles chapter.

 

Joita was appointed as a vocal music instructor, by the Anila Sinha Foundation Nritya Academy, Chicago and was invited for a lecture demonstration at the Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. She has performed at the Vedanta Society of Providence, Rhode Island, and the Vedanta Society of Southern California, Hollywood, branches of the Ramakrishna Order.

 

Among her recent performances, Joita has sung at the Kamalanjali Jayanti Sangeet Samaroh, Los Angeles, South Asian Music Society, Chicago, Music Circle, Pasadena, Parameshwar Hegde Music Academy, Guru Purnina Festival, Bangalore and Allahabad Degree College, Prayagraj.

Education

  • Obtained Prabhakar Degree from the Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad (1998) - topped with special distinction in practical.

  • Obtained the Master of Arts Degree by securing the highest percentage of marks in Music, University of Allahabad (2001).

  • For securing the highest percentage of marks in the entire Arts Faculty, she was awarded 5 gold medals by the University of Allahabad (2001)

  • In recognition of her accomplishments in the field of Hindustani Classical Music at such an early age, she was honored with the most prestigious award instituted by the Bengali Social And Cultural Association, Prayag (2002)
